Under the Radar : Volume 1 : Dex Ortiz (Savages)

Dex on 2018 expectations: “Championship”

Under the Radar (Volume 1): Dex Ortiz, Savages

By Jason Gregory and Sanjay Sharma of 516

In a league filled with unbelievable people and talent, this section is dedicated to the guys that show up every week, give maximum effort, and fly under the radar.

This can’t be more true than for the team that we selected our first Candidate from. Everyone knows about our defending champions the Savages. They are filled with talent that includes big names such as Pavy, Hash, and Charley. But if they are going to repeat as champions in 2018, it is going to take a lot from the other guys.  After week 1, it is evident that Dex Ortiz will be one of the key players in helping the Savages achieve their ultimate goal. After watching the Savages, his play stood out to us and his grasp of the game was evident.

By the end of the year Dex will no longer be flying under the Radar but on everyone opposing teams game plan as a player to watch.  Consider this a heads up to everyone who will play the Savages in 2018.

Q&A with Dex:

Dex how long have you been playing in Sasl?

Answer –  This is my first year in the league.  I have known Pavy and Hashim a while, so I was happy to join the Savages when asked.  They also promised me free alcohol and Halal food every week. 😉

Seeing that you just finished your first game, how did you feel it went?

Overall it was fun (except for the 2 losses) but I am happy to be playing in SASL this year.  I see the competition is going to be very tough, but I am confident in our team.

What are your expectations for the 2018 Season?

CHAMPIONSHIP OR DIE!! 😊

Some of my teammates said they have played with you before in various tournaments, what was your opinion of the competition two games into the season?

I was very surprised, guys came out, hit well, and smacked us.  If all the upper division teams are this competitive, it is going to be a tough but fun season.  I know everyone that plays our team will bring their A games, because they want to see how well they match up against us.  It just means we are going to have to be ready for battle every week.

Thank you for your time Dex, in closing what message do you have for the league?

Answer –  I AM LEGAL, as per South Asian rules.

Reaction

Dex was impressive because going into the game we had no clue who he was. After the game we were like wow that guy can hit.  He is a lefty which is rare as is and he can basically can hit the ball anywhere on the field with power. Till next time, thank you Dex and welcome to the SASL.
