The Buzz – Week 7

Let’s make a cap for parity is what we were told. Welcome to sweep city this week. Only one game was a split.

Every week of the league brings more issues and the chats are lit.

We went from propane gate to the All-Star break, to How can He Slap!!

Here is the buzz – SASL Style

1 – Savages – Lost a big bat this weekend with How can he slap.  There are rules there for a reason. This was pretty clear cut and it’s unfortunate for the Savages but they lost a great offensive player for the entire year. Who do the Savages bring back now?  Do they bring back Joel to give him consistent at-bats? The Savages are probably the weirdest defending champions in league history.  Does this team seem like they are the defending champions?  Right now this team hasn’t been able to keep any consistent momentum and shake the clouds surrounding the team.

2 – The Mighty Ducks – at this point can we talk about how this team is for real? They beat one of the hottest teams in the Met’s this week. They swept them! This team has now won 4 against the Met’s.  Get your Saad Yousuf Memes ready. Fresh from his All-Star Game Victory he is looking for bigger and better things with his team.  This team just seems like they have everything working for them.  But, in the playoffs going against a team that has full attendance and a full top 10, how will they fare.  But, being undefeated playing the caliber of teams that they are playing week in and week out is no joke.  Kudos to The Mighty Ducks.

3 – 516 – Team Nassau County is within striking distance to the top spot.  Somewhere Sanjay is doing his best Mr. Burns impression and is saying I got the league right where I want them. If this team brings their top 10 – they believe that it is game over for any team in the playoffs. They have positioned themselves solidly to make a lot of noise. Who really wants to face this team in the playoffs?  I don’t see any team lining up to face them.

4 – Met’s – they are doing a lot of jockeying behind the scenes, if they spent that amount of time focusing on their team they would be even better.  You can’t dispute the talent on this team but they have definitely underachieved. When you have the caliber of players that they have put up the types of numbers that they are.  You expect more W’s in the column and fewer L’s.  One thing for sure is that Ali G is the king of the mind games and he has been pulling all of the stops this year.  He needs to be in the running for manager of the year just for his behind the scenes jockeying.

5 – Outlaws – right now this team is in striking distance of the playoffs.  Saiful has been doing a commendable job bringing back this team. Attendance is the key. When they have their top ten, there is no team that can feed off of each other’s energy like this one.  If they get hot then the entire team gets hots. Does anyone want to face Ahmad Halimi, Majid Raufi, or Greg Murello with the game on the line?  They have some of the youngest stars of the SASL with a mix of vets. A perfectly balanced team.

6 – Empire / TROOPERS – took care of business this week which was expected.  We didn’t learn much from their wins this week aside from the TROOPERS get angrier when you spell their name in lower case letters than they do on the lack of attendance week in and week out.  Credit to team Sunil for bringing in a team, but this team would look so much better in the National League.

7 – Scooby Scorers – on paper this team should be so much better. Half the league still has a hard-on after seeing Captain America’s performance at the All-Star Game.  The rest of the team needs to step up and get on base when he is up.  You think that Dan is second-guessing leaving his old team for his new team?  How can a team with so many talented players not win a game outside of the Troopers?  The run differential is minus 42 going into last week. They lost a 1 run game against the Outlaws that they should have won. They need to put a few wins together in order to keep the core of this team together.

8 – Hit Squad – keeps on winning. With a revamped roster and big contributions from Joel and Ronak plus who is Obaid?  They may be the biggest loser if the Savages call back Joel to play with them full time.  The HitSquad team has quietly revamped their roster on the fly and are still in first place. This week they play Strike Force again in a game that the HitSquad crew had circled on their calendar.  The biggest stain on the season so far on HitSquad was their match up earlier against Strike Force.  Look for HitSquad to come out and try to make a statement.

9 – Breaking Bats with their top ten on paper are the best team in the league.  They took care of business against the NWO in a game that featured how many home runs?  A team that wasn’t really known for much power has been putting up NY Yankee’esque power.  Nabeel Haque may be having his best season in his career and that’s saying a lot about a 5-time champion.

10 – NWO – come on Ayaz.  We miss you and your team.  Remember when you guys had confidence and optimism.  You were on the boards.  Now the NWO are acting like the actual NWO a bunch of geriatric wrestlers holding on to their past. This team is ripe for a dismantlement.  The line for their shortstop starts right there.  Teams will be swarming like vultures for the pieces of this team.

11 – Strike Force – great guys off of the field but probably one of the teams that opponents are the most irked by on the field.  But, they have channeled that energy in a positive way as they have played way better than their record indicates.  This weekend they get to have a return bout against the HitSquad. That series is what changed the perception of this team from also-rans to a team in the thick of things.

12- The Ones – Naeem and company have turned around their season. The hottest team in the national league.  Amby is a stud we saw in the National Leauge. This team probably has the best chemistry in the league.  Btw, league organizers get Pops behind a mic.  An Ayaz vs Pops show would melt the internet.  They have been taking care of business week in and week out and are climbing up the ranks.

13 – Bengals – they had a great shot to steal at least 1 game from HitSquad and lost a nail-biter.  Salman and company are in the thick of things and have been doing a great job this year.  They are ahead of teams like Dynasty who no one would have expected at the beginning of the year.  The Bengals started off really slow, and now are going to be playing the same teams a second time. They didn’t pass the test against the HitSquad – they need wins the next few weeks or could really drop in the standings.

14 – Dynasty – they say that teams take on the personalities of their team. Dynasty is cool, calm, and collected just like their captain Sonu. He didn’t panic when the league wrote them off after their horrendous start. He isn’t gloating after getting his team over .500.  This team has been through too many battles to not focus on the real goal.

15 – Purple Reign – This team was doing the Bat Dance all of the ways to the playoffs but have come back down to earth. During the night games, their players had to choose between the two leagues and didn’t choose the Reign makers.  What will happen in the playoffs if they are faced with the same circumstances? Mo Ali has done an amazing job putting them together and has great chemistry, but the other teams in the SASL are starting to sense that the boys in Purple are beatable.
