Purple Reign Vs Breaking Bats
This week’s national league game of the week features the division leaders fighting for first place. Carmen Ave park serving as the Venue. This field has seldom been used in the SASL and the weather will need to take a turn for the better if this dirt field is going to be in playing condition. In the event this game doesn’t get rained out, both teams should exercise safety as it’s supposed to be a wet Saturday night and injuries are more prone to happen.
Purple Reign (5-1) is coming off two huge victories as they snuck by Strike Force with 1 run victories in each game. The first game was back and forth and they had a come from behind win, however they led a commanding 8-0 lead in the 1st inning vanish in game 2 and won with the opposing teams tying run in scoring position. This team is filled with youth that has some spunk to them. They will be without their captain at least for game 1 for a league infraction. If this team can remain focused and defer their desire to quench their peculiar thirst until after the game, they can look to make some noise in the playoffs.
Breaking Bats (4-2) bring back the same formidable team that made it to the semifinals last year. They are led by last year’s MVP, whose SASL player rating did not increase from a 7 despite winning the league’s most prestigious honors. They also have a player whose rating coincidentally dropped from an 8 in the fall to a 7 in the offseason, thus allowing both players to participate in the National League. It is more likely a coincidence that one of their players sits on the player ratings committee and that team captain is also well known to be good friends with SASL commissioner. Nevertheless this team was one of the favorites to make it to the NL championship game this year and they’re playing like it.
