Pick ‘Em: Experts Analyze Week 3 Matchups

  • Avatar

LAST WEEKS PREDICTIONS: Last week we went 3 for 6 in our predictions. Better than Week 1! Hit Squad sweep, Dynasty sweep and Dothrakis sweep gave us the 3 wrong predictions. We thought those games were going to split.

YEAR TO DATE TALLY: 5 out of 12 right (42% success rate).

Matchup: Black Mambas (2-2) Vs Dynasty (4-0)

Field: Eisenhower D @ 8:30am

After week 2, Dynasty is riding hot. They start the season off 4-0 beating TSFE and Troopers, 2 contenders this year. Beating the Troopers in the bottom of the 7th game 1 boosted their confidence big time and they thrashed the Trooper’s game 2. They face the underdogs Black Mambas. Mambas added some extra firepower acquiring Dan A.K.A Captain America A.K.A the only 13 rated player in SASL history. Black Mambas lost 2 close games against Hit-Squad last week, putting their record at 2-2. They face a tough battle this week where they need to come ahead and get some wins. Let’s see if Dan is the enigma this team needed to compete with the best. Dynasty has been on fire all year so it will be up to the Mambas to cool them down.

Predictions: Split! Mambas will be the first team to give Dynasty an L this year. Mambas are a scrappy team who will keep fighting so expect 2 close games. Dynasty will look for the sweep and continue their undefeated season

Matchup: The Ones vs Shooter
McGavins

Field: Eisenhower 6 @ 8:30am

The Ones finally got their first wins of the season. It should have been expected against the DadBods. Their offense continued to stay RED HOT and they put up another 28 runs. Shooter McGavins have yet to win a game and its not looking to good for them. They looked defeated against Dothraki’s, not something they want to carry forward. They face another heavy hitting team so their defense will need to shape up or risk starting off 0-6. They have the talent as evidenced by last year, but they need to put it all together. Can they bring back last years form and steal a game?

Predictions: Sweep! The Ones offense have been clicking all season long and they don’t seem to be cooling off. Expect another big scoring game from them if Shooters defense is shaky. Shooters need to play sharp and steal a game

Matchup: Backdoor Sliders Vs Hit Squad

Field: Cantiague D @ 8:30am

Backdoor Sliders got hammered last week by The North. They allowed 53 runs in 2 games. They really need to turn their season around quick if they want a chance to compete. Starting the season off 0-4 does not help. The new rookies need to get improving and prove they belong. Offensively they scored 24 against a weak defensive team in The North but that’s not the same story with Hit Squad. Coming off 2 close victories against Black Mambas last week, Hit Squad looks to stay hot. Defense was on point again, something some of the top teams are missing right now. Halimi made his first appearance and cleared the fence 3x going for 9 RBI’s. Is he what Hit Squad was looking for week 1? It should be an easy week for them against Backdoor Sliders.

Prediction: Sweep! Hit Squad is the superior team and they are coming off a sweep. Don’t expect them to cool off this week. Backdoor Sliders need to get some momentum and try to squeeze a win out.

Matchup: TSFE v Dothraki’s

Field: Eisenhower 2 @ 11am

TSFE got their first win of the season, splitting with MonStars. They look to be back on track now and want to continue this against a hot Dothraki’s team. Offensively they seem to be clicking a bit more now scoring 30 runs. Their defense still needs some improving allowing 32 runs. This is a key matchup for them, going against arguably the top dogs now. Was week 1 a fluke for them or will they fold again against greater competition. Dothraki’s came out strong, destroying Shooter McGavins with a combined score of 29-5. They are on fire and will give the work to TSFE. It does not seem like they have any weakness right now even with a hobbled Hashim. They allowed 5 runs in 2 games to a serious contender so TSFE will need to be clicking on all cylinders.

Predictions: Sweep! Dothraki’s are hot right now and will take advantage of TSFE. TSFE need to step up their game against Dothraki’s and for the rest of the season. A cold start can ruin their young season.

Matchup: The North V DadBods

Field: Cantiague A @ 11am

The North just dismantled Backdoor Sliders and DadBods is a similar team with no offense. Offensively they have been lighting up opposing pitchers in the 2 weeks. Charley has been near perfect this year batting .875 with 19 RBI’s to go along. They still need to work on defense as they have been subpar so far. They allowed 23 runs against Sliders, against better teams, defense will kill them.  DadBods is off to a slow start again struggling to put up a fight. They put 7 runs though which is still more then Shooters and Troopers. Game 2 against The Ones is the best they have looked all year so they will want to try to emulate that again. They are a scrappy team who can upset a team who isn’t focused so beware.

Prediction: Sweep! The North’s offense is too strong right now. They are scoring at ease and Dad Bods will struggle to keep up. If Dad Bods can repeat game 2 of last week, they are looking better as the season goes on

Matchup: Troopers Vs MonStars

Field: Wantagh B @ 11am

Troopers let game 1 get away from them against Dynasty. Bottom 7th walk-off will kill your momentum and that’s what happened game 2. Troopers have a nice squad this year and attendance does not seem to be an issue so far. Defensively they are as good as the best. Kyle Bacchus has done an amazing job holding it down at SS, don’t hit it his way. Offense will need to pick up if they want to stay competitive because you’re not winning scoring 6 runs in softball. MonStars the veteran team has looking sharp so far. Splitting with TSFE last week scoring 32 runs. Rookie Vinny Florido looks like a solid pickup so far, being named MVP for last week. He went 7-7 with 10 RBI’s. Look for him to stay hot and give a big boost to this team.

Predictions: Split! Both teams are looking like contenders with Troopers needing the wins much more. Expect 2 close games as this seems to be a defensive showdown. MonStars are the hotter team right now so Troopers will need to push forward after last week.
