Power Rankings: After Week 5

  • Avatar
1. THE NORTH (9-1) ⬆️ 2 spots

They haven’t faced the stiffest of schedules as of yet. 3 of their 5 matchups have been against the 3 teams with the worst records (Backdoor Sliders, DadBods and Shooter McGavins). For now, they claim the first place in the Power Rankings but it is tenuous. As they face better and better competition, their vaunted offense is looking more and more pedestrian. The defense has come around big time tho, so they will definitely be in the thick of things.

2. HIT SQUAD (7-3) ⬆️ 2 spots

What a climb! The veteran team did not panic after an 0-2 start. They have shortened their rotation and getting the best players the most playing time. ‘The whole is greater than the sum of its parts” is the perfect way to describe this team. Every week someone new is shining the brightest. Couple of big matchups on deck with MonStars and Dothrakis. All 3 teams have an identical 7-3 record and these games should be huge for tie-breakers at the end of the season.

3. DYNASTY (8-2) ⬇️ 2 spots

As soon as it looked like Dynasty were the clear favorites in 2020, it all came unglued this past weekend against Hit Squad. The positive is that we are still in the middle of the regular season, and they have another 6 weeks to tinker with the roster to make it championship worthy. Another big test awaits this week against The North. If they can win both or at least 1, it will clear a big mental hurdle. Let’s face it, their talent is not the issue. They just have to dig deep in these crucial games.

4. DOTHRAKIS (7-3) ⬇️ 2 spots

They are 1-3 in their last 4 games after a red hot start to the season. Coming into the weekend, they had the second best defense by all metrics and that all came apart with Mambas putting up 40+ runs in 2 games. The team still has good talent but Mambas definitely showed some chinks in the armor. Nothing cures a little slump like their opponent this week: Backdoor Sliders. After that they have 2 big matchups in Hit Squad and Dynasty back to back.

5. MONSTARS  (7-3) ↔️

The team no one really talks about is quietly tied for 3rd place in the standings. Their schedule is going to be really tough rest of this month with Hit Squad, Dynasty and The North coming up in a row. These games will really show us if they are pretenders or actual contenders. A few Monstars are having career years with the bat, but against good defensive teams, your biggest stars will need to shine thru.

6. THE ONES (6-4) ⬆️ 1 spot

The Jekyll and Hyde team keeps us mystified week to week. This week against Troopers they looked great in the sweep. Game 1 everyone produced on the offensive side and in game 2, the defense was lockdown. Low key addition of Waqas has been huge as he’s stepped up big time of late. They can really move up the standings if they can beat Mambas this week with Backdoor Sliders coming up in a couple of weeks.

7. BLACK MAMBAS (5-5) ⬆️ 1 spot

The biggest wins so far came on Sunday for this young franchise against Dothrakis. They offense pummeled their way to 2 wins. Narish and Dan came thru as usual, but now Peter Santos have joined in the fun. They are getting production all over the place now and look to build some momentum with some very winnable games coming up against Ones, DadBods and Shooter McGavins. We wouldn’t be shocked if they end up as a top 4 team by the end of the month.

8. TSFE (5-5) ⬆️ 1 spot

4-0 in their last 4 games. Have they figured something out? Yes, we had them at number 1 preseason. And we may still be right. Maybe all the pieces just needed some time to gel. With Chris Mui and Saad, they have the power. With Dheeraj, Jason, Travis, Harvey etc they have the speed. It is a full roster, and one that can roar back to move up the rankings swiftly. They have a trap game this Sunday against an underachieving Shooter McGavins.

9. TROOPERS (4-6) ⬇️ 3 spots

The biggest faller this week is Troopers. They are down 3 spots after teams below them last week all picked up sweeps (TSFE, The zones, Mambas). Our 9th place team swept Hit Squad, was an out away from beating Dynasty, and beat MonStars, Dothrakis.  Any given Sunday this year. They are missing some power from the lineup as Anthony and Majid have both slightly underperformed so far. They do have the easiest remaining schedule, so let’s see if they can pounce on matchups they should win (DadBods, Backdoor Sliders and Shooter McGavins).

10. SHOOTER MCGAVINS (2-8) ↔️

After getting their first two wins of the season in week 4, week 5 was more of the same as they got swept by The North. Let’s face it: their best players have been hugely disappointing. TK and Mike Velez were expected to be in the MVP conversation but they are both playing like league average players. Every team needs 2-3 superstars to compete for a championship. Shooter McGavins superstars have let them down so far. If they can regain form, watch out!

11. DADBODS (0-10) ↔️

DadBods continue their slide and now looks like they may have no shot at the SNL either. They must get to 4 wins to have a shot as Shooter McGavins have the tiebreaker over them. On the bright side, they may have played their best 2 games on Sunday as both games were close.

12. BACKDOOR SLIDERS (0-10) ↔️

Backdoor Sliders continue to get pounded on defense. Their opponent this past Sunday, MonStars put up 40+ runs in 2 games. The emergence of Rishi Rampal has been a bright spot as he had 2 more Home Runs. While they haven’t been winners on the field, Captain Hasan and Manju are both trying hard to rally the troops.
