Awards Watch: Manager Of The Year Edition

(Every week we will take a look at one award and break down the race on who we think the favorites are. One week we will breakdown MOY, the next week ROY, following week MVP. And then we keep rotating until the voting is done at the end of season)

What makes an SASL Manager of the Year? The winner is almost always the boss of one of the very best teams in the league. Last year in the American League Ali Ghumman/John Sans won for HeavyHittaz who finished as the second seed. In the National League last year Ronak Jain/Aasheesh Shravah won and they also finished as the second seed. In 2018 we had Saad Yousuf of undefeated The Mighty Ducks won the award. Sajid Kakana led his Dyansty team in the National League 2018 to a third place finish and the MOY.

Voters usually look for teams that have very good records that seem like they overachieved their talent level. Usually voters also take into account the retooling of a roster during the offseason and early on the season as well.

Managers of the Year:

1. Dothrakis (Sunny Naveed/Hashim Naveed): Rookie team off to a blistering 4-0 start while incorporating a few rookies in the league. Under the radar moves of Freddy, Ahad, Pervez, etc have also worked wonders. They probably had the most offseason practices and it is paying off big time.

2. MonStars (Salman Quader/Sajeel Haque): Juggling a 15 man roster that has 15 average to above average players is hard. Salman and Sajeel has done a good job to get their teams to put their egos aside and work towards one goal. 3-1 record thru a brutal opening slate so far.

3. The North (Charley Robinson/Irfan Musliwala): Another 4-0 team, The North has built their team around outscoring their opponents. Thru 2 weeks, the captains have an admirable job of keeping the troops energy level very high thru the heat. They are getting career years out of many of their players so far. Let’s see if this continues in August when schedule gets tougher.

4. Dynasty (Sajid Kakana/Gaurav Bhasin): Sajid and Sonu have really gotten the regular season down to a science. They carry a light roster and have very good attendance. Consistency and clear roles are very important and they do it well. 4-0 start and they beat two very good teams.

5. The Ones (Naeem Bhalli/Amby Cruceta): They have a bunch of kinks to to work out. Can their pitcher be a full time pitcher? How will they solve their Outfield defense? So far they are 2-2 and in danger of dropping out our MOY rankings unless these questions get answered.

Fallen off the list from last week: Troopers (Sunil Rangila/Wahid Hoosein)
