SASL All Star Day 2018 – Recap

Sunday, June 17th – Father’s day was the date for the 10th annual South Asian Sports All-Star Day.

Events included

  • Fastest Man Competition
  • Home Run Derby
  • All-Starr Game

The menu included various burgers, hot dogs (beef and turkey), and chicken.

Salman Quader (Bengals) and Saeed Anwar (Savages) had the area reserved and ready to go.

Ammad (HitSquad) and Saj (Dynasty) manned the grill and cranked out food in rapid fire.

Hashim Naveed (Savages) brought his curly hair and ran the Running Man Competition and the Homerun Derby.

11:30 am – The Running man was won by Omar Hernandez of the Ones who defeated Irfan Musliwala of the Savages in the finals.

12:30 pm – Homerun Derby

The National league home run derby was won by Asad Hamdani of Strike Force with 6 home runs to defeat Amby Cruceta in the finals

The American League home run derby was won by Dan Dilorio (Scooby Scorers) who put on an absolute pounding on the ball. Dan has won the home run derby 3 years in a row.  Going into the end of round 1. Dan needed 6 home runs to advance to round 2.  He hit 6 in only 48 seconds of his 3 minutes.

In the finals, Dan launched a SASL record 20 home runs in 3 minutes using a single wall bat to win his third consecutive title.

2:30 pm – All-Star Game

Team Blue managed by Saad Yousuf (Mighty Ducks) took on Team Red managed by Ammad Sheikh (HitSquad)

Team Red was in full attendance with 11 of 12 attendees there.  The Saad Yousuf Experience was missing 3-4 of their players and had to into their subs.  The Red Army took an early lead on a three-run shot by Rafael (516) and a long double by Dex (Savages) as those two put on a show.  Amby also homered and it looked like it was going to be a laugher as the red team took an early 4-0 lead. Saad’s team broke it open in the 4th as they scored 9 runs on fielding miscues and solid shots against team red.  The game came down to the top of the 9th inning with the Red team up by 2, the boy’s in blue scored 4 capped by a home run by Dheeraj Ramachandani (Empire) who just beat the throw at home.

In the bottom of the 9th after a solo home run by Dan had cut the lead to only 1.  The tying run (Ankit) was thrown out at home trying to score from 2nd on a sac fly.

Team Blue notched their win.
