National League Power Rankings – Week 8

1. Hit Squad (10-4) ↑1

They swept the Bengals in convincing fashion. Holding them to a total of 10 runs this weekend. They continue to keep winning games and beating the better competition in the league. Up next is Strike Force, HS looking for revenge as they were swept by Strike Force early in the season.

2. Breaking Bats (11-5) ↑ 1

They swept the last place NWO and have positioned themselves in 2nd place. They continue to put up good offensive numbers and held NWO to a total of 10 runs this weekend. If they continue to play defense as well as they are hitting they are primed for a run to the finals.

3 Dynasty (8-6) ↑ 2

The second half is here and so is team Dynasty. Sweeping a very good Purple Reign team is impressive enough, but doing so by 9 runs in game 1 and 11 in game 2 is another level. On a 5 game win streak and taking over as the hottest team in the league. These guys are primed for a deep playoff run if they continue to play the way they have been.

4 Bengals (9-7)  ↓ 3

Has an opportunity to take over 1st seed but blew it against Hit Squad. They have 7 losses, 6 of them against Hit Squad and Breaking Bats. They have a tough matchup this weekend against the red-hot Dynasty team. A split here and they should be in good position for 3rd seed as they will hold the tiebreaker against Dynasty and Dynasty still has a makeup game against # 1 seed Hit Squad.

5. One’s (7-9) ↑ 1

A 4 game winning streak is just what this team needed to get back into wild-card contention. Beating up on the bottom dwellers NWO and Strike Force isn’t going to put you in the argument for best team in the league. But, they prove at least that they belong in the playoffs. Next two weeks are Breaking Bats and Hit Squad, they can ill afford to get swept by these teams. If they can find a way to win 2 out of the next 4 they will set themselves up very nicely for a wild-card matchup.

6. Purple Reign (8-8) ↓ 2

Four straight losses. They have struggled against the better teams. Still one of the most energetic teams with the biggest upside. They must go at least 3-1 in these next 4 games. Fortunately for them, they have NWO and Strike Force who can’t seem to buy a win recently.

7. Strike Force (5-11) —

Another sweep, this time by the One’s. With Hit Squad upcoming this weekend, it doesn’t look pretty for Strike Force. They have no margin for error if they want to make the playoffs. If they can manage to split with some of the top teams and sweep the lowers teams they have a chance. If they get swept by Hit Squad their chances at a playoff berth will be very slim.

8. NWO (4-12) —

Another poor defensive showing by NWO. They can’t string together hits and they can’t stop other teams from putting up big innings. It would take a miracle for NWO to make the playoffs.

As expected Dynasty is looking like a powerhouse. Embedding themselves with Hit Squad and Breaking Bats as one of the top teams. The battle for 4th and 5th just became interesting as the One’s sweep while both Purple Reign and Bengals got swept. Should be an interesting finish to see which of those teams is left out of the playoffs. NWO and Strike Force need major work to at least get back in contention but don’t expect either to make a big push.
