National League Award Watch
SASL season is finally in session. Lots of good teams trying to rise to the top and claim themselves a championship. With the start of the season comes the contention for the top awards. Who can stand out and make a name for themselves and get their hands on an award?
The awards we are looking at this year is
1st) MVP – The most sought-after award. Is there a player that can completely change the dynamics of their team and really push them to the top? Can anyone dominate the game and prove themselves as the best guy in the league?
Here are some potential candidates for this award:
- Stephen Raia of Purple Reign – First time playing in SASL and starts off 5-5, what a good start to the season. Let’s see if he can keep up this level of production and be a force in the league.
- Frank Perez of Hit Squad – Always a threat, with his power and speed. Going 3-5 with a home run and a couple rbi’s is a solid start but can he repeat this and push Hit Squad to the top?
- Ambiorix Cruceta of The Ones – What a crazy start to the season. This guy hit 4 home runs during opening week. Do we already have our MVP locked down? Watch out South Asian Softball, this guy will make you pay.
2nd) Manager of the Year – Who wants the bragging rights to the best-managed team? Who can lead their team to victories throughout the season and make the proper changes to ensure their team is going to be at the top? This season there are a lot of potential candidates to win this award but who is going to prove that they are the best?
Here are the potential candidates for this award:
- nWo: Asim Farooki
- Breaking Bats: Sajeel Haque
- The Ones: Naeem Bhalli
- Strike Force: Arshad Naqvi
- Hit Squad: Ammad Sheikh
- Bengals: Salman Quader

- Purple Reign: Ali Ahmedy
3rd) Rookie of the Year – To all the rookies of this year, I wish you all the best of luck. Whether this is your first year playing softball or first year in SASL, this league ain’t no joke so get prepared to go up against some good teams. Prove to everyone that you’re here to stay and make a name for yourself.
4th) Captain of the Year – A very underrated award, I feel like. A captain has to be there for his not only his team but also support the Manager. When things get tough, will the captain step up and take charge? When the Manager isn’t there to lead his team, the Captain has to take charge and lead his team to the victory.
Here are the potential candidates for this award:
- nWo: Ayaz Dar
- Breaking Bats: Syed Haque
- The Ones: Sijo Jacob
- Strike Force: Yasar Quhshi
- Hit Squad: Ghulam Ali
- Bengals: Faisal Chowdhury
- Dynasty: Gaurav Bhasin

Good luck to everyone who is in contention for these awards and enjoy the season!
