Power Rankings: Week 1

National Week 11 Power Rankings

1.

DYNASTY

Faced the preseason favorites. Two mercy wins later, they have put the league on notice. There is a new number 1 in town. The offense was clicking and the defense kept the mighty TSFE lineup to only 8 runs in two games.

2.

DOTHRAKIS

They took care of business against a weaker opponent in DadBods. While they are still figuring out everyone’s defined role, the core looked good out there. Big challenge ahead this week against a hungry 0-2 opponent in Shooter McGavins. This will be their first big test.

3.

TSFE

We are hesitant to drop them too low after their supposed huge offseason additions. Not having much preseason action really hurt this team as they looked really rusty against Dynasty. Too talented to not snap out of it. Big week 2 test against the 2-0 upstart MonStars.

4.

THE NORTH

2-0 against The Ones is exactly what they wanted in a tough Opening Day matchup. Their lineup looked great with 44 runs scored in 2 games. However, the defense and pitching gave up 37 runs. They have a lot of cleaning up to do. Week 2, they face Backdoor Sliders which should afford them a Sunday to start working on their defense.

5.

MONSTARS

Salman and crew took 2 wins on Opening Day to the shock of much of the SASL community. Wily veterans like Kunal, Faizan, Shane, etc had clutch hits all day. Can the magic continue in week 2 against another tough opponent in TSFE? The slow climb to the top of the Power Rankings continue for MonStars.

6.

SHOOTER MCGAVINS

They drop 2 spots this week after a lackluster Opening Day losses to MonStars. Their defense, which was touted as one of the best in the league, played horrendous. Maybe it was the rust, or the jitters of week 1. But they must clean it up quick as they face a realistic shot at 0-4 with the Dothrakis in town in week 2.

7.

THE ONES

Inning 1 of their season, this team put up 11 runs. And the offensive onslaught against The North continued rest of the day. They ended the day with 37 runs, but more importantly, 2 losses. Captains Naeem and Amby are already looking towards DadBods to get rid of the bad taste in their mouths from week 1.

8.

TROOPERS

Two HUGE wins against the champs Hit Squad and they only move up one spot? Well, we would like to see some consistency before we believe in them. Troopers do have the look of a legit contender with their under the radar pickups. Captains Sunil and Wahid are still working hard to find the finishing touches to the roster to make this a true contender. This week they face another tough challenge in Dynasty.

9.

HIT SQUAD

Our biggest mover, Hit Squad, falls 6 spots in the Power Rankings in one week. Their offense looked lethargic and looked like they were missing some energy. Maybe we are reading too much into week 1, but we were not impressed. They get the 2-0 Black Mambas this Sunday, and must sweep to stay relevant.

10.

BLACK MAMBAS

Yes, they are 2-0. Yes, they flashed some good offensive potential. But let’s face it, it was against our last place team Backdoor Sliders. Black Mambas did what they had to do. Get 2 wins against a team they absolutely HAD to beat to have any chance at the playoffs. Can they use this to start building some confidence? A win against week 2 opponent Hit Squad will go a long way to solidify them in the eyes of many as a contender.

11.

DADBODS

They actually look a little better this year. While game 1 against Dothrakis was a mercy loss, game 2 they only lost by a score of 10-6. Baby steps. Their first 6 weeks of the season look absolutely brutal. They need to hang in there and believe!
12.

BACKDOOR SLIDERS

There are no must win games on Opening Day.  Are there?  It definitely felt like it. To most observers only one of Backdoor Sliders, DadBods and Black Mambas will make the playoffs. They just lost their only 2 games this season against Black Mambas. This week they face The North and a heavy prospect of starting their season 0-4. They will always have the nice Pink unis tho.
