The Buzz – 2019 Off-Season, New Podcast, and Dad Bods?

1. About month to go! 16 teams split up in two divisions. Rumors of a 17th and 18th team looks dead now. Apparently 17th team was ready to rock and roll, but league decided they could not let them in without a solid 18th team. SAD!

2. 2019 Rookie Team has entered the league and they are called “DADBODS” and captained by Parvesh. Greatest SASL team name ever? Very apt for a south Asian softball team!

3. Shocking to hear rumors NL MVP Frank Perez leaving Hit Squad! Who is picking him up? Win a MVP and championship and then bolt? Any discord in that clubhouse? If there was, Ali Najmi and co. kept it hidden and won that chip. Time for another retool?

4. Scooby Scorers and Force have officially merged sending shockwaves in the SASL community. They are now called Scoobies Force, which also sent shockwaves for its lack of originality and creepy sounding name.

5. Looks like Outlaws resurrection was only a one year deal. RIP Outlaws.  The nostalgia has worn off and it’s probably for the best.

6. Where is the HR Derby champion Dan DiIrio aka Capt. America playing this season? Is he still a Free Agent this deep into the offseason? Seems like he should be the most sought after FA, but leaving his 2018 team halfway thru the season seems to have left a bad taste in a lot of captains mouths.

7. Breaking Bats, a team that has been around for years in SASL, are officially changing their team name to….**drumrolls please**…simply ”Bats”. This team name change has the makings of the H&M “Coolest Monkey in the Jungle” fiasco.

8. Some new segments to look forward to this season: Weekly Podcast from the Commissioner, “Outside the Diamond” with Manju Shanmugam, “Fantasy Team of the Week”.

9. What’s the most enduring image of the 2018 SASL season? That picture of Ducks holding a Ammar Plaque? The time Ducks players kept repeating how many balls Savages pitchers threw in a row? The fact that Ducks went undefeated in the regular season? The time many of the Ducks long time vets held that trophy for the first time? Let’s face it: Ducks 2018 was the team of the year and maybe the best team in SASL history.

10.  You know what’s missing from SASL? Team Jerseys. Ever since the league started giving out complimentary shirts, have teams have gotten lazy and cheap?! Is this a new trend of teams not getting team jerseys? Come on guys! Get some dope jerseys!
