When it comes to rules we have had a consistent stream of complaints from both umpires and teams. Both, accuse each other of not knowing the rules. So consider this the SASL cheat sheet!
Our league follows USA Softball Rules – just a few quick cheat sheet rules.
- Every pitcher wears a mask – no mask no play
- Every player wears a matching team color – it doesn’t match you get a 1 run per player that isn’t wearing it. They wear it throughout. Hoodie has to match as well – wear the t-shirt or jersey over the hoodie
- 6-12 arc
- 16 after 3 and 12 after 5 is our run rule
- 3 courtesy runners – after that it is the umpire’s discretion based on injury – the runner is the last batted out, a fielders choice is not a batted out
- You need 8 players to play and the other team HAS to provide a catcher – no waiting for your 9th, you have 8 guys and it is game time you play – 15 minutes is only if you have LESS than 7
- If you have 9 or 10 guys you can’t just start batting with 8 – if you have 10 players you have to bat 10 players. If you have more than 10 players you can start batting with 10 and have the 11th + sit on the bench.
- No throwing the ball in between innings (no ifs and or buts about it) – Don’t bring a ball.
Commissioner, committee members, no one can throw rank on the field once you step on the field it is the umpire’s discretion, wrong or right - We have all agreed to behave, there is no cursing or taunting. If someone is cursing at another team, they are to be warned and then thrown out of the game
- Any threat of physical violence is an immediate ejection from the game
- Any physical violence is an immediate ejection and removal from the park – will result in being removed from the league
