Awards Watch: GM Edition

With the season underway and in stride, some GM’s are starting to push ahead. It’s only been two weeks so far but this could be an indication of what’s to come. So, let’s take a look at the candidates:

  1. Ali Ahmedy of Purple Reign – They had that shaky first game against Dynasty but ever since then they have won three straight games. This is a team that only formed two weeks before the season started and managed to put together a solid team. Coming into the season no one had any expectations for this team but now they are looking like a contender. Getting the mercy win over nWo, they won’t be an easy team to beat. Sporting a 3-1 record so far, they look like contenders that could make it to the top.

  1. Arshad Naqvi of Strike Force – They went into fall ball and did not perform well. That’s why they were ranked at 8th at the beginning of the year but so far, they have exceeded all expectations. Right now, he is leading his team to a 2-2 record and is in 2nd They retooled from last year’s Layth team which also did not have a great year but they look like a different, better team than expected. They got two wins over Hit Squad who are always a solid squad. That was their first real test and they performed well. Let’s see if he can keep his boys motivated and hungry to finish on top.

  1. Naeem Bhalli of The Ones – Last year they were not a competitive team. They had attendance issues all year so they always played short. This year Naeem did a great job building his team and competing. So far, they lead the league in runs scored, doing a good job of putting pressure on the opposing team, making them go hit for hit. They look like a totally revamped team and could make some noise. Even though they just got swept by Breaking Bats, they should not let that put them down. They have to come out strong next week and prove that, that was a fluke.

  1. Asim Farooki of nWo – Coming into this season they lost their two best bats in Masoom and RP. That should have derailed this team but instead, they are in 2nd place for runs scored. Asim put together a team that could definitely hit the ball and score runs when needed. On the other hand, if they can work on their defense and stop some runs from coming in then they would be a scary team. Unfortunately, it’s going to take some work though as they are in 1st for runs allowed. Going against a tough Purple Reign team, they look to bounce back next week and go back up top.
